what after the interview

G

Hi,
i had an interview for a PhD yesterday (no feeling whatsoever if it went good / bad). they told me that they will send out the decision next week - there are also other candidates they will look at in the next days. My question is now: should i follow up with an email (like thanks for the interview) or just wait for their decision???

Another question: how many PhD interviews did you have before you got a position? This is my second and I am not sure if I should continue looking for a PhD if i am turned down.

G

Dont get depressed. This year I applied to 290 prof. for a summer internship, and finally got Cambridge, UK.
So if you can just hang in there, the patience will surely pay off...

That scares me Kiwi. I also have a PhD interview and i am getting really stressed now especially after reading your message. How was it with you? What were the interviewer's expectations?

G

Forgot to mention my interview was tomorrow. A phone interview.

G

it was quite strange. i got to meet 3 professors + 1 phd student and they talked most of the time, just asking me a few simple questions towards my CV. i think i was too quite for them, because i didn't interrupt them or anything else like that.

Hey Kiwi. I had 4 interviews in total. One went terrible, but I got an offer. So don't be disheartened, don't give up !

Do not send an Email thank you. It looks lazy. Much better to send a handwritten one on some nice, but bland stationary.
Your thank you should stress the positives you had in the interview:ie
Thank you for taking time to speak with me. I am now really excited about the possibilities involved with this project. I was particularly interested in the aspect of XYZ, as I have some skill in this area and am very interested to do more of this type of work...
It's one last selling point...use it.
