what info would make life easier?

R

Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if there was anything you wished you knew before starting your PhD, things you wished you had been told during, any advice you think all PhD students should have to help them get through? or any sources of advice?

Some people at my uni are looking into this and trying to bridge any gaps and support PhD students more. Perhaps in the form of a book to be given to all PhD students or something. Anyway, any ideas would be hugely appreciated thanks :-)

A remember a similar thread to this awhile ago. See if you can find it and bring it to the top. We'll have a think on what to add!

A = I , hmmm, losing the plot here

what are your worst and best PhD experiences?

My worst was the day i discoverd my cell model was a disaster and my best was...........must be due anytime soon i think!

My worst day was probably my third supervision where I threw up in the departmental toilets beforehand. The best? My last supervision (number 7) when I had research to show and felt proud, relaxed and pleased!

I'd also like to know that worst and best moments of the PhD to decide it's worth doing it. But, no matter what people tell you, even if someone says "it's three years of hell on earth", I think if you were determined to do it, you'd do it anyway...

Ummmm...in my case, make that 5 years.

But the hell on earth part is right!
