PhD: making key decision

B

Dear all,

I know it is not reasonable to do it but, do you think if I might start a PhD, even if I don't have really interests in the subject, and resign after several months in case the subject is really not for me ?

To be a bit more clear, the subject is related to my academic background but I need a job as soon as possible and I can jump into this project and work right now.

On the other side, I have plenty of other responses from other universities I am currently waiting but the commencement date would be in 3 or 4 months.

Thank you in advance for reading and your answer.

I think that if you know from the start that you're not interested in the PhD, it would be very difficult to make it work. To do a PhD you need to be sufficiently interested in the subject that you can work on it for several years. Plus, if you start this one and then quit, it may make it more difficult to get one of the other places that you're interested in, as you'd have to explain why you wanted to quit one PhD and start another.
