As part of the 1+3 ESRC studentship, I have received funding for a masters and PhD (including tuition fees and maintenance grant). I am now nearing the end of the masters, and am having second thoughts about the PhD. If I decided to quit before the PhD starts, would I have to pay back the masters tuition fees and maintenance grant??

I'm not sure myself but have you read the following guide to see if it's mentioned in that?

Hi could you tell me please if you received a full stipend for the masters part of your Studentship? The reason I ask is that I've just received a monthly payment schedule which only pays me half of the award! Is this because it's masters and not phd element? Also can I ask what has put you off the PhD?
