hi sarab,
i'm your competition also waiting for the results. haven't heard yet. last time i checked the guidelines i believe i read that they would inform your school's registry at the latest by july 31st. then who knows how long the registry takes to let us humble applicants know...
good luck!
Hey people,
Here's what it says in this year's ESRC funding guide
For the new student intake for 2007 the ESRC will no longer be offering or confirming awards direct to students. Institutions will be notified of studentship application results including confirmation of student nominations for all schemes. Institutions will then take over responsibility for the awards. They will be required to inform all students of the outcome of ESRC applications and quota nominations and to advise new students on the payment arrangements within their institution. The ESRC would expect all students to have been contacted by universities no later than 7 August. For quota nominees this
should be possible well in advance of 7 August.
So your wait should soon be over. Good luck!
hi! first post!
i've applied to esrc, too, for a 3+ award. i'm just finishing my MSc and on our professional skills module, we were scheduled to have a 2 hour session on how to complete an esrc form and proposal. when the day came for the session, the guy leading our group just sort of said it was highly unlikely we'd ever be successful and went on to talk about something else instead.
that said, even though i know there's an ultra-low chance of being successful, i can't quite extinguish that tiny bit of hope inside me that i know will make me unreasonably, irrationally upset when i'm told my proposal was unsuccessful. oh well!
good luck to you all!
Hi All,
Great to hear from some other people who are waiting - and thanks for the info! I applied for the +3. I know there is only a tiny tiny chance, but I still can't get rid of that tiny bit of hope either! And will also feel disappointed even though I'm rationally pretty convinced I won't get funding...anyone considering trying to self fund the first year? My supervisor is encouraging me to do that - she self funded and managed to get little pots of money to keep her going through her PhD....but I haven't heard of many people having 2nd and 3rd year funding success so it feels like a bit of a risk... well good luck to all!!
i self-funded my first year and applied to ESRC for the consecutive years. unless you've got loads of money it puts you in a awkward situation near the end of year 1 - money's gone, you don't know yet if any is coming in, you can't really afford to keep going as you are, but applying for open jobs only have makes sense if you are still waiting for funding results... but i'm sure it can be done and by now i can give you whole lists of places you can apply to after having started. haven't managed to actually procure any money yet, though.
I am also waiting to hear about +3 ESRC funding...I have been rejected 2 years in a row so 3rd time lucky! Not holding out much hope though. I cant understand it...I got a 1st in my undergrad, distinction in MSc etc etc and still no luck - I think I would have better chances playing the lottery!
Not sure if we will get a letter in the post (as in previous years) or find out from the uni...I hate waiting!!
Anyone heard anything yet??
