im thinking about starting a part-time phd wonder what the real chances are of getting help from external organisations, charities etc. This is the direction everyone seems to point you in but how many people actually make a success of it?

my phd would be in human geography- specifically to do with  community initiatives and sustainability as part of around alternative food systems.
