Have you been accepted or rejected for the 4th interview? and how long did they take to make their decision in all your Phd interviews especially the 4th one?

Im askin cos I gave an interviewa nd they said they need a week to decide. I'm wondering what takes them so long to decide? If a candidate is that good in interview shouldnt they make their decision the same day as the interview?

Whats your plan now if you dint get this phd?

just had an interview and it went good I did the best I could and was even told that I did good by the panel...however they said that i was good but there are 2 or 3 others who are also good so its a tough competition and so they'll take as long as a week to decide. And im not sure if I'll get it cos I still dont know my destiny........

i had a similar situation more thn once and i still am searching for phD;s so my suggestion to you is to stop waiting and im not askin you to lose hope but seriously stop waiting for this one and apply to others in fact as many as you can...there is no point in waiting and worrying!

I know this nervousness of panel interviews been there done that! but it depends on the field that you are applying to...so be cool(up)

Hey guys

I saw your comments and was wondering...does anyone of you discuss day to day things happening in your life with your suprvisor? I mean to keep it a bit informal/semi-formal and not just talk monotonously about your project whenever you see him/her? And is this semi formal relationship a boon or bane? My second question is whether a semi formal relationship is more easy if the supervisor is the same gender as the student?

I was unsuccessful ,( I dint make it and you all were right they came back to me by email cos I had sent them one asking to expalin why I was rejected cos this is valuable to me to learn from my mistakes and they said that I was the final 2 and it was tough for them to decide. They think I had done very well in my interview so tehy dint see any flaws in me. However, the only reason why I dint make it was because I was more broad focused (for that research) and they needed a more specific focus on that issue and I demonstrated a broad but not specific focus to it.

But you know what I never wanted to do a PhD in the UK anyway for a bunch of reasons so even though this project was so good and I really liked it but I would have never been happy about my choice to move to the Northeast of the country. So now I am applying to other countries and otehr projects. And I even have 2 or 3 interviews in the next 2-3 weeks. So, fingers, toes, and everything crossed for me guys!!!!

Dear All,

Following my PhD interview last week I sent an email to the course coordinator today to find the sleection results. Please see my response and her response and can you tell me what to interpret out of this and if I have been successful or not?

Dear XXX
Following my interview for PhD in ______ it would be helpful to know if the successful and the unsuccessful candidates have been informed already?
And I got the following reply:-

Dear YYY

The letters relating to this studentship have been posted to all applicants today. You should receive this before the end of this week.

So what should I expect? Positive or negative

Now to answer you, this is a PhD studentship and there is only 1 place as far as I know so If someone is accpeted to it they automatically are covered by full studentship. I gave my interview on Thursday the 6th and today is the 11th. They said in the interview that i would hear in this week so I am still waiting. However, I decided to lobby and sent an email to the PG coordinator already if she has announced the results. I knwo its a bit desperate but this is question of win or lose. I wana know a YES or NO fair and square. let them deal with paper work later. I need some mental peace guys!

You all ahve no idea (or perhaps have an idea) of what im going through every second of this waiting! :-(

No news so far. I sent them an email asking if they have already informed the successful and unsuccessful candidates. Now I hope atleast I get a response to that.

@ Dr.Jeckyll i was informed during the interview that they would take the final decision on that same day. And that I would hear the news by the middle of this week. I know that middle of a week is Wednesday late afternoon but I am so anxious and I'm not able to concentrate on my day to day tasks so I just emailed them now. Lets hope that they get back atleast by tomorrow and lets hope that I made it :-)

Its unfortunate in your case that they told you only after 3 months but finally you got it so congrats! And they shouldnt take that long cos its unfair they should respond within 2 days and deal with formal procedures later on.
