I think your decision to go to industry is wrong. If you can receive a PhD position you must take it, because you may not have another chance.
Man, who work in industry about 1 year and more, don't return to science at all.
I think it will be better for you to accept PhD position because if you go to industry you will never return to science and obtain such well conditions. As to problem with theme change it is normal situation in science. Merely you superviser have found more interesting object for investigation.
I think it is normally. Now I have two papers, which were rejected. I correct them and will send again soon.
Excuse me, I am post-graduate student from Russia. I have read this topic and want to ask you: Why cann't you make job and PhD together?
In Russia many people do so.
