I have a same problem. I am also an overseas student. I applied to several UK universities and contacted with potential supervisors. Two supervisors really interested in my research, however there is no funding is available at the Uni, I have to find the funding for my research. My interested area is Population health and health services research. It seems majority of the funded projects are usually only for UK/EU students. For me it is really hard to find a funding. For the last 1.5 year I spent a lot of time to find a funding. However, I am still keep trying to find a funded projects and other sources. I wish you good luck.
Thank you very for your response and encouragement Dunham.
During my Master study, I tried to my best to succeed. However, as an international student, it was challenging me for adjusting to a new environment and unfamiliar social life. Particularly, for the first six months, it was very difficult living in a big modern city. I think it is my big weakness, poor adaptive skills. But, it is not an excuse for my poor completion of the study I think.
Sometimes I think that studying for PhD it is like a “day dream” for me. And always ask myself that is it a really realistic future plan or not. But, I really want to be positive, to believe that I can get a good chance and better option. Thank you again.
Hi, everyone. I need your advice and help. I am an international student. Two years ago I got my Master’s degree in public health policy at the University of Bristol with pass degree. But, I have a high GPA for my undergraduate degree equivalent to the First Class honours degree for the British classification. And I received a fully funded scholarship for my Master’s study. I really want to continue to study for PhD in the UK. Recently, I applied for the PhD studentship. Unfortunately, my application was unsuccessful.
Is there any chance I can get a PhD studentship with pass Master degree, if I can write a good research proposal and can find a suitable university and supervisor?
Please could you give me your advice. Thank you very much.
I am intending to study for PhD under the studentship opportunity in the UK University.
2 years ago I have received a Master’s degree (pass) from the UK University with Commonwealth country's scholarship. I completed my undergraduate degree in Medicine (B.Sc - Bachelor of Science) in my home country, Northern China. My undergraduate degree’s GPA is 3,71 (93%). I have read much information related to academic grading and international academic grading comparisons. However, I am not sure that whether GPA 3,71 of 4 is equivalent to the British First Class Honours (1st) Degree.
The studentship requirement which I am planning to apply is only for the First Class undergraduate degree or a Distinction at Masters level or equivalent.
I would like to ask for your advice about the academic grading and eligibility? Will I be able to accepted by the PhD studentship? Is there are any agency or organization can help me to compare my undergraduate degree grades into the UK grading classification? Thank you very much in advance.
