It went so well . First I was nervous , but as soon I realised that these students know so little ... I was really confident , tried to encourage everyone to participate ...which did not really work , same 5 students kept answering and talking , I made sure to give really positive comments on their answers.
. And really enjoyed explaining things on the board . I was so surprised by myself and looking forward to do this again.
So if you ever found yourself in this situation .. remember these are students , who know for sure less than you , emphasise on the topic your confident to explain ..
Thank you for your reply! I am actually good at given presentations. Because I always prepare myself perfectly. But this is not a presentation, this a two hour class, where I have to interact with students, and go through exercises and explain and answer their questions...
Hey, I am a fresh PhD student, and was asked just this week to teach today a class of almost 50-80 Students...I really want to pursue a teaching career and love to explain things to people, but only if I am confident enough about the topic. However , such large amount of student seems threatening to me and the topic is also somehow new to me ......and the biggest problem I am naturally a very introvert person, so I am absolutely afraid to start stuttering and talking nonsense, making grammatical mistakes while talking... I know if I mess this up today, there is no chance for me to have another opportunity to prove myself... I don't know what kind of advice might help me. I really needed to get my thoughts written down...and see if others with similar personality have overcome their anxiety disorder..
I will update you after class and tell how it went..
I have applied to a Phd position , where they require a certificate for my English skills. I did the TOEFL exam and just received my score. I downloaded the report as a PDF and was thinking whether it is permitted to send this PDF file directly to the University or is it just allowed to send it using TOEFL service (-> report will be sent via post to the university by TOEFL )
Have you already submitted the thesis and did you receive any feedback? For me it was like this, I received feedback from my supervisor and then arranged a meeting before the defense , where we had a discussion and I somehow knew what questions he might ask.
They will ask you questions that are related to your thesis and they really just want to see that you critically conducted your research ..
I hope this helps.
I just had my first interview for a Phd position in Germany via video call. And I am not sure whether interviews in Germany are always like this and therefore I don't know how to feel about it.
To the interview : it was two hours long. I was interviewed by the leading professor and another professor. And I was only asked to talk for about 15 mins about my master thesis , which happens to be very related to the research field there. And then the professor went on to talk about a possible research project. And after one hour or even less the leading professor left and then the other professor just talked straight for one hour about the university , I did not say much at all , just asked four to five questions.
I asked him when can I expect an answer and he said in two weeks I will get an answer for sure.
I really did not expect the interview to be like this, i don't know what impression I have left .. anyone with a similar experience ?
That's the (automated ) reply I got to my application :We will carefully consider your application during the initial screening and will contact you before the 18th of September to inform you, if you have been selected to continue in the recruitment process.
Does is it mean I will just get an answer if they have selected me , because according to the mail I should get a reply before 18th and today is already the18th?
I am too nervous and I don't know if I should just call them today ..
I need to get this of my chest otherwise I am going to explode and I want to hear your opinion on this and whether someone was still accepted for a phd after a bunch of silly mistakes
I have just sent my application (9 hours ago) for a position that I really want . They were asking for an English certificate , but my English language assessment test is scheduled for next week and the deadline for the application is today. So I asked them in the Mail if it is possible to hand it in afterwards. I already felt bad for having to ask them that. Until I found out that I have forgotten to attach my CV. Panic..
So I wrote a second Mail , telling them I was so excited about sending my application that I was not aware that my CV was not included .. so I just attached only the CV. I was about to hide under a rock until I realized not only did a make mistakes in my mails but in my cover letter
In the mail :
1. addressed to the person without Mr.
2.i am looking forward for .. instead of I am looking forward to
In the cover letter:
1.please free... instead of please feel free
So I have the feeling I am the biggest idiot ever ..
