I'm applying for jobs which require 3 references. I have my two supervisors, but who should I use for the 3rd? I feel bad asking people because they would actually have to write and send off a reference, rather than just be asked if I was called to interview. I have submitted my thesis but haven't yet had the viva. Who do people normally use?

So I was wondering how many people actually finish in 3 years and whether finishing in 4 makes any difference when you come to find jobs? My university expects you to take up to 4 and I don't know anyone there who did it in 3. Is that typical? Should I be in a massive rush to finish? (I'm in my 4th year and everything is written so it's just (!) editing now)

Was wondering if anyone had heard back about JRFs at Oxford or Cambridge yet? I've just heard from Pembroke (I didn't get through:-( ) but still waiting to hear from a couple.
