Hey everybody
I've been awarded a pretty generous scholarship to perform my PhD work in an institute located in Madrid. In order to obtain my diploma, though, they require me to get affiliated with some university, letting me free to choose which.
I was suggested the Universidad Autonoma or Complutense in Madrid, but some people told me there could be issues concerning the recognition of the spanish PhD diploma abroad. I was thinking about potential alternatives, such as british universities but couldn't really find much on the web...Anybody has any suggestions for me? Thanks a lot!!

Canadian PhD

Hey there
I'm currently a grad student at the University of Toronto, moving here from Europe last winter. Here you get a grant of 23900 CAD/year, tax free, that would be quite good, but unfortunately in the end results to be sufficient to survive, when considering that you'd have to pay around 7000$/year in tuition and several accessory fees.
It's quite hard to save money, expecially for trips here in Canada or for travelling back home, and as a foreigner you can't easily access additional funding since most scholarships or grants are for Canadian citizens or permanent residents only.
Last but not least, take into account that probably your master won't be recognized and you'd have to officialy start as a master student and then reclassify to the PhD after around 1.5 yrs, taking a reclass exam.

Not to discourage you, but I've decided to move back to Europe ;-) . They seem to have quite a "protectionist" policy here and in other places things may be a lot easier. Despite my love for Canada, I'd probably be back as a postdoc :)
