Hi, I am very interested in pursuing a Finance PhD in the US; however, my undergrad degree is in Industrial Engineering. I want to gain more background in Finance, what can you suggest, to complete a thesis-based master's degree in Finance first (my personal choice) or take some short courses in Finance?
I hope someone can help me. Thanks a lot!
Hi! I'd say it would really depend on what your long-term goal is. Personally, I want to be a professor (I can see myself spending the rest of my life in academia). However, you said that you don't prefer that path. So, my advice to you is to work right after your master's, and then assess yourself on what you really want. Anyway, you're still young (23 right?). Remember, the average age of a PhD student in the United States is around 31 to 34 years old!
Good luck!

Hi! I'm a prospective PhD student, too. All I can say is, based on my research, very few schools offer a part-time PhD. Probably, this is so that you can concentrate on your research. But, if you insist on pursuing a part-time PhD, you can take up those online PhDs; however, I don't think that's a good idea if you want to be in the academia.
