Hi, I am a severally dyslexic in grad school who some how made it to grad school. I struggled a lot through school and was told I would never graduate from the 8th grade. I couldn't read until 9th grade and learned to write about 10th grade. I spent to a dyslexic boarding school called the Gow School. Got out of there and was told I could only go to colleges that had accommodations for me. I thought the ADA act took care of that? I went to Mercyhurst College and got a undergraduate in business marketing and management. I was involved with the LD program and created a marketing program for them my last year of college they paid me to travel and sell there program. I was told I couldn't go to grad school. Being dyslexic and not being able to read for so long I became good at reading people. I am really good at talking one on one. I used that to get into grad school and the school really had no support for LD students. I dont think anyone LD just a term schools made up. Some how I talked my way on to a LD prisidents committee "what a mistake the school made in letting me in". I just made them invest $9,000 in Kurzweil system so me and the other 590 students classified as LD can get books on tape. Now my question has anyone ever started a LD club because I am going to and wanted some input? This is what keeps me in college making changes that help people out like us. Yes I want my master and it will take me longer then most to get it. But my goal is to change the system make it more unique learner friendly. I know there were a lot of people like me who quit school because they didnt have the financal support, accommodations, or were lead to believe they couldnt make it.
Any input would be great!!!
