forensic IT

N

hi this is naveen.. i got offer for forensic IT in university of portsmouth.. but i have no knowledge in forensic or in linux... i am providing a link which shows course contents ......
so please tell me that dummies like me can get over on this course with hard work?

P

Ok, hi.

1) You know nothing about forensic, yet you applied for a course that has to do with it? Why?
2) What has linux got do with it? Unless it is something different and not linux the Operating system
3) You provided no link, not that anyone would assist you IMHO
4) You expect to be 'told' stuff to do the course and get the degree?
5) Again, for this beats me: why did you apply for a course in a field you know nothing about? How did you get funding? Why? How? Really, how?

We have recently, regrettably had so many similar questions, from the sub-continent of India that I am beginning to wonder why this is happening! As your name suggests, if you have lived in India and done your past degrees there, please consult your department and find out what you should do for further studies? That may clear your vision....

hi really thank you for your reply... and sorry for link.. now i am sending the link...

i have mailed to the department profesoor about forensic IT course... hhe repleid me that there will be some tools in forensic IT , such as FTK ,enCASE which are taught in part of course... and he also mentioned somt unix commans has to be used... he replied me as follows
"From my experience with the digital
forensics industry I'd say that peoples' work covers a range of
discipline, some very focussed on technical issues, others in a wider
context. Most employers would like to employ people with experience
of two core tools (Access's FTK, and Guidance's enCASE), however to
use these with understanding you need to have used other simpler
tools, such as the many command line linux tools, that do much the
same thing, and this awareness forms part of our course. later we
focus on FTK, but have enCASE available too, so that people studying
our course will have skills with both."

i applied this course because i would like to see myself in forensic field even though i have no knowledge in forensic.
i applied this course because i think i can settle in either neetwork security field or forensic field...
in india we dont get much advises from departments of universitites...dont get quality teaching in most universities..even graduate dont have much knowledge after graduation...

First of all, do not make these generalistic comments about a country's education system. There are plenty of fantastic unis in India, and there are many people who graduate from these places to become researchers of repute.

I agree that the system is poles apart from the system we have here in the UK. My question to you still remains:

How did you apply to a programme without a remote idea of what it was about? This is like, me suddenly deciding I want to be a microbiologist and applying for a course in microbiology and then asking what it means on a forum.

Is that how things work? No. I am sorry for coming down on you like a ton of bricks but I am amazed and a little annoyed that someone can apply for a course just because they feel like it, even when they havent the faintest clue what they are doing and why.

hi i dont make any comments or criticisms on my own country education system just for expecting reply from you .... i dont blame my country just because i dont have knowledge in forensic.... i am graduate from computer science... in my graduation  we did not have any subject related to forensic or linux.... even we dont have course like forensic computing in many universities in under graduation...
come to the researchers, i bet there might be person like me ....
your question that " How did you apply to a programme without a remote idea of what it was about? "
i bet there is lot of students taking pg course in u.k without any idea.... for instance , lot of students ready for taking computer subjects even they are from mechanical based or electrical based....
why i take up this course is because i have knowledge in networking .. but dont have much knowledge in linux...
"forensic IT is related to computers"
how can i take microbiology ????
anyway our discussion is deviating ....
i am sorry if u mind ......
