Hi guys! I'm new to the forum, and have lurked around for a similar situation but can't quite find the answer.
I am considering a masters at Bangor university in Mindfulness based approaches, but the path I want to take (to also receive an accredited teaching qualification to be a mindfulness teacher) requires that I take the route of applying for the pgdip first, then upgrading it to then masters at a later date.
This seems to mean, although I am going to have an MA at the end of it, I won't be eligible for government funding. It also takes 5 years part time instead of the maximum of 4. Does this sound like it's the case? I would never be able to afford to self fund, and if I cannot get any funding I wont be able to continue my studies.
Any advice you have would be amazing. Let me know if I need to clarify anything, I've written this from my phone!
Looks like it's a five year part time MSc? I can't see the bit where it says you register for a pgdip first?
But it does look like 5 year MScs aren't eligible for funding anyway - only up to 4 years pt is funded https://www.gov.uk/postgraduate-loan/eligibility
I would contact the uni and tell them this and see if there is a way round it, because it's not in their interest to offer 5 year MSc when students can't get funding for them because they will get fewer students. Bear in mind you would only get a total of £10k for the whole 4 years anyway, so you would still need extra funding/income.
