hi
i have finished my masters and have been literally jobless for more than a year
i was thinking of doing a PHD ao even a MRes
but forums like these paint a very bitter picture of these folks
with entries like
"The drain on your social life, the intensity of the path, the chronic uncertainty and poor rewards outweigh the passion I had for my subject. If I had taken a more vocational route, I could have done research as a sideline, while still having job security, good pay etc.
I admit I got sucked in by the messages of "once you get your PhD, everything will be okay", but with everything else that has happened since, I wish I had made other choices since my BSc. I don't think I am the only one."
i am scared.
so anybody willing to show me light???
What is your masters in?
I'm just starting a MSc Toxicology and you're freaking me out. I've seen how hard it is for my bachelors friends to get jobs, masters doesn't help?
@sibley
hey dont worry
firstly i wasn't jobless despite trying and all.
i was more... ummm... laidback.
no an MSc is definitely worth it.
and especially toxicology is a good stream, if you aim for a future corporate sector future. (??)
i did mine in Biosciences (specialisation in biotechnology)
even whr u do ur MSc from also matters
whr r u from??
but location notwithstanding, i would always advocate an MSc. for better job prospects, better research prospects and mainly for more knowledge.
dont do MSc , if ur priority is monetary alone, or u feel u want to shift stream for a better future
best of luck in your final decision
