I'm very interested in pursuing an International Relations Masters in Europe starting 2015, but am not sure if my academic background leaves me in a good enough for a realistic chance at a place.
I have a 1st class BA in philosophy from Southampton University obtained back in 2012, and have since lived and worked in both China and South Korea (which is where I am at the moment). There are a number of courses I've looked at which I think would be suited to me but I'm a little concerned that I could be discounted for not having a BA in a social science. The admission requirements for most places I've looked at specify a number of degrees that leave someone eligible, but always leaves the list open. The list also varies from institution to institution.
I'm hoping that my international experience, and the analytic skills gained from philosophy, would leave me in with a shot, but I don't know if it's a bit of a pipe dream.
Thoughts would be much appreciated!
It's going to depend on the individual institutions, you should contact their admissions departments and ask.
It depends solely on the institution you want to study at. Some require more work experience than others. Honestly, with your background, you shouldn't have any problems getting in an International Relations program. Still, as TreeofLife said it's best to contact the admissions departments of the institutions you are interested in.
Wish you luck!
