I've 3.2 Years of IT work-exp in India. I came across Coventry Uni. which offers MBA-IT. Can anyone suggest some other good uni.for January intake. Also I would like to know which one would be better, MBA or MSc. The degree should hold value when I come back to India after 3-4 Years of workexp. in UK.
I tend to day this a bit, BUT make sure you can actually get a work permit to work in the UK. Jobs have been heading out of the UK IT industry for some number of years. That combined with an imminent recession, and literally huge numbers of unemployed well-qualified IT grads may effect your plans. I'm personally aware of several Masters students from overseas that have similar aspirations to yourself, but have been unable to find work.
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I'm aware of ongoing recession but is the impact on IT industry so bad that coming to UK should be avoided for the next 2-3Years?? I'm planning for Jan-2009 intake and feel that by the time I finish my masters, job market would become stable.
I would be grateful if someone provide me list of good universities offering MBA/MSc in IT/Systems.
I haven't done an MBA myself, but I think its worth definately ensuring that the MBA is targeted towards your needs and career aspirations (IT sector), and from a high reputed university. You also need to ensure that the degree will be worth something in the next few years, as it is an expensive course which is going to mean sacrifices, unless you have a sponsor.
Many universities offer MBA programmes, and quality obviously varies between them. In my opinion, you are best off consulting the rankings to decide from the top list of schools (LBS, Cambridge, Oxford, LUMS, MBS, Warwick, Cranfield, City).(http://rankings.ft.com/global-mba-rankings)
Good luck!
I'm planning a similar course in UK for sept 2008. For a mixture of IT and Mgnt the following courses seem interesting:-
1) Management In IT (Nottingham Univ) MSc
2) Advanced Comp Science and IT Mgnt (Manchester Univ) MSc
3) MBA in IT and Entrepreneurship (Nottingham Univ)
What I cant gauge is whether an MBA would be better or MS courses with a mix of management.
Plus can anyone throw some light on the job prospects after such courses?
Thanks.
