Dear All,
I am currently doing a part time PGDip distance learning at an English University.
I was wondering if anyone knows if it would be possible to switch from the PGDip to the MSc track? I have searched this forum and all other examples are the other way around.
The taught units are identical for both tracks. However the cost per annum of the PGDip is less than that of the MSc (both part time). I don't know why since the units are the same. My GPA is above 70, so that should not be an obstacle.
I want to wait for the result of my next unit before I will officially inquire at the University. However I am very curious to your opinions. I started the PGDip because I am doing it beside my job. Now it feels like a missed opportunity if I would not try to obtain the MSc.
Regards,
Johan
Hi Johan
Lots of universities will permit PgDip students to proceed to the MSc. The key difference (which accounts for the greater cost of the MSc compared to the PgDip) comes from the fact that you will have to complete a dissertation / major project in order to achieve the MSc.
As long as there is an MSc being offered by your institution, I would imagine it's possible for a student to 'upgrade' or proceed on to the dissertation stage, subject to satisfactory performance (which you clearly suggest would be the case with an average over 70)
All Best
