I have looked on here and found some very useful thoughts on constructionism/constructionist/constructivism but am getting confused myself with all the different terminologies. As I am doing a literature review for my dissertation I feel I am coming from a relativist angle as I am not analysing data (positivism) as such but critically reviewing articles on a subject area of choice.
Before I go headlong down the wrong path can you help me sort out in my head what the difference is in doing a literature review to doing a phenomenological piece of research. I am returning to study at a mature age and am finding this all a bit confusing!!
It is confusing! You could try Crotty's book on The Foundations of Social Research, which explains the different terminologies. My understanding is that the literature review normally informs the approach you take to your empirical research rather than constituting a particular approach in itself - but maybe I've misunderstood your question.
