2:2

G

Hi after achieving only a 2:2 (self funded hence had to work even during my finals)! Anyways is there any hope of me being accepted for a PhD? Anyone had any experience? any other routes to take? It's what ive always wanted to do :(

G

doing a masters will qualify you for funding although its still tough. It is possible though, you just wont have as many people wanting to take you. Without a masters its almost impossible!

G

It's not impossible - I know two people with 2:2 who started their PhD's the same year they graduated - no need for MSc. Lots of PhD's don't get snapped up - so always apply because if they can't get someone with a Frist or 2:1 to fill the post they will consider you.

G

I wouldn't worry too much about it, I got a 2.2 and with a masters I had 4 interviews and found no problem getting a good PhD at a good university.

G

It depends alot on how competitive the field you are going in to is. If there is alot of competition it would be worth applying for a masters; however, this doesn't stop you applying for PhDs at the same time. Email potential supervisors and see what their opinion is. Good luck.

G

getting the phd wont be a problem. the only problem youwill face is the funding. 9i think only eprsc consider 2.2 for funding. all other rsearch concil wants 2.1 .however if you doing self financing, then you wontface much problem

G

If you intend to apply for a good university I am afraid a 2:2 is not good enough, often peole with 2:1 are turned down! Most of the problem as somebody mentioned will be the funding as often 2:2 is not considered eligible

G

Unfortunately now days more peole want to do a PhD therefore there is more comeption, is not as it was 3-4 years ago eny more. Try but an MSc is advisable.

G

I got a 2:2 also and got admitted into U of Chicago
for the coming fall w full funding

G

greately depend on the subject area, obviously more popular subjects such as biology have more epplicants so with 2:2 you wouldn't be able to compete with others! unless you ll self-fund your PhD..

G

you have found the answear then, go to america they seem to be more open to lower marks

G

upgrade ur mark with a MSc if you want to stay in england
