I started my PhD(funded by NERC)6 months ago after being out of education for 2 years. i have lost my direction & can't motivate myself, I'm bored by my project and just feel like I'd rather be doing something else. I think I want to quit.. is this something everyone goes through? I just feel like someone else would make better use of the funding than me. If I do quit is there anyway to salvage my CV? Could I just say I decided it wasn't for me? Anyadvice/sympathy would be gratefully recieved!
All PhD students go through this; you've got to decide if you are just low or if you really want to quit. Think about how you would feel if you did quit - relieved or regretful? It's perfectly okay to say that it wasn't for you if that is the case. Is there a direction you could take your project in that would interest you more? Or is there a job you would be more interested in doing? Good luck with whatever you decide.
