Hi, all.
Currently, I'm a PhD student and I'm going to defend my dissertation at this autumn. I'm 26 years old, have a wife and job in analytical laboratory. At this time I'm thinking about getting Post-Doc position in Europe and will be glad to hear any information from current postdocs about approximate requirements for position. At this moment I have several publications: one in journal with IF = 3.95, one in journal with IF = 2.3 and going to publish at least two papers in journal with IF = 2.3.
It will be very usefull for me to hear advices from postdocs about what kind of additional (informal) requirements do European universities have.
That's it really - publications and experience in the techniques required for the specific postdoc you apply to. If you have teaching experience and grant writing experience, even better.
I have never heard about teaching experience. Thank you very much, TreeofLife. Does anybody know how much publications should be for applying for PostDoc position?
Agree with TreeofLife although I've never heard about teaching experience either. Publication is desirable and something to confirm your CV but it's counted only when you are the first author. I got my job before publishing my PhD work btw. I think people will judge your experience, passion and motivation based on the CV and cover letter, and importantly on what are written on the references. Also it's always good if your potential boss knows your referee(s).
