Hi.

I'm a first year phd student and have to write a conference abstract for a school conference within my uni. I haven't collected any data - ethics for working with people. Just wondered if anyone would be able to help as in how I should approach the abstract?

You can still write an abstract without data, in your case it would be like an introductory study write-up.
So just talk about what your study is about and what it is going to do.

As said by Satchi you can write an abstract without any data.

Motive. Introduce your topic. Why is it important?
Objective. What do you want to solve/answer?
Methods. How do you planning to do?

Depends on your word limit 1 or 2 sentences will be fine for each.
