hello
I want to become some kind of arts teacher, i have a 2:2 in media/visual arts.A pgce course leader was quite off putting, filling me in about the lack of skills many art teachers face. He said that he wants to see an advanced knowledge of all aspects of art to accept someone on his pgce. For me, i lack many skills, but i do have skills in animation, photoshop, editing, stop motion animation, photography. This i told him, he seemed rather presumptuous that i lacked something essential that he couldnt quite describe to me.. I have a wide portfolio of animation and photography, and 3 years experience teaching english as a foriegn language, a diploma in psychotherapy, but i know relatively little of art history, and even less on the skills needed for a variety of techniques. So i thought maybe this isnt right for me, maybe i should do a foundation course first? to brush up on my painting skills.
Or take a masters in education first, i found a masters at exeter university, Master of education in creative arts. Could a course like this get me back on track?
