Confusion over offer

B

Sorry, I had to make this into two posts due to the word limit.

Hi, I am current a 3rd year undergrad. I have applied for a number of
different MA courses, and at the beginning of April received a 2.2 offer from UCL. At the time I thought this was a very low offer from them as they are such a prestigious university, and that they had stated their normal offer was a 2.1. However, as it was a formal offer sent through a letter I was happy to accept it. However today I have now received another letter from them telling me they are replacing this offer with one for a 2.1. While I understand this is clearly their more standard offer, this change has caused many problems as I had already in the two week period between the original and new offer rejected an interview at Goldsmiths because I thought the UCL offer was so good, and thought I might as well save myself the trip down to London and concentrate on my finals.

Its not simply that they have upped my conditional offer that bothers me so much, but the fact I centred my whole plans around the original offer(and thus this change has rather messed up my plans), and yet they offered no apology or recognition of the fact this may have happened. I spoke to my father, who is an academic, and his response was along the lines of 'these things can happen, it was probably just a clerical error'. However I still feel like I'm owed an apology of some sorts.

Has this happened to anyone else? Am I over reacting here? Any feedback would be much appreciated.
