Hello all,
I had a job interview for a post today. I applied for the post as it was part-time and I thought I could finish writing up but earn some much needed cash. I didn't get the job. The feedback = ' I seem preoccupied with my PhD and a tad overwhelmed.' Not sure if that constitutes good feedback to be honest but I'm actually feeling embarrassed and a bit irritated. They knew prior to interview that I was completing PhD. Hmmm. Just thought I'd share this :-(:$:-s
Sorry you didn't get it. In my experience employers rarely want to know the details of PhDs - they want to know they won't be having to support you through the process. Best to keep it vague and highlight how well you can balance your studies with work etc. Problem is, in this market, jobs that used to go to PhD students are now going to postdocs with 4 years experience
Hi Blackbyrd!
Sorry to hear you didn't get the job. From talking to others, it seems that competition for posts is quite fierce at present which is not helpful in itself.
I've received mixed feedback from my interviews including 'we really liked you and can't fault you at all but we chose someone with more experience'. But I've also received some constructive feedback and, as annoying and disappointing as hearing the feedback was for me, at least I got to know why I wasn't chosen and I can act on it for next time! So perhaps you could do the same?
I've had a few interviews over the past several months and I'm still unemployed so not sure I'm the best advisor on this :$ but don't give up!! You CAN do it! Plus I've been told that practice makes perfect;-)
