I had a disagreement with the main authority in my thesis subject area at my viva. I'll be interested to see what he recommends for my minor corrections, as I am pretty sure I am right on this point. However, he is a very reasonable guy so I think he'll just ask me to discuss the issue more thoroughly. Anyone else had issues like this?
I think concluding the viva is a good sign. One guy from my department defended his work for 6 hours (!!) and then they had to reschedule to continue the discussion, because neither the academic nor the guy would come to some sort of mddle ground.
Congratulations on finishing!
Well done for getting through it. Some academics love arguing it out and enjoy it rather than get cross at it and see it as all part of the process, in a good way. I had a disagreement with the leading authority in a field once. It was seen as nothing but professional banter. Congrats on minors :D
Thanks guys. I was a little surprised at how short the viva was, but again I guess that's a good sign. The external is a nice chap, so there was no danger of any problems. I've checked the resources he mentioned and I'm now certain I'm right! Naturally I will state this in a circumspect way giving my evidence.
