Disk or external hard drive for images

P

I've got more than 3,000 images that I am going to put in the appendix of my thesis and was going to put them on a disk but last time I tried to do something like that the disk was blank after I had spent ages on it. I know I obviously did something wrong! However, I was wondering whether there was any etiquette on how to include images. I'd rather put them on a portable hard drive but this is not as easy to attach as a disk which can just slip in a pocket.
Any views?

hi PamW, what software did you use for burning the disc? (example: Nero)
I use a mac which makes it very easy, I just copy the files over in a folder for the cd and then burn it.
Also you need to see how much space you have in the disk and if all the images can fit.

Do your university's doctoral guidelines/regulations cover this? The form and presentation of additional material is often specified.
