hi. am attempting to answer this coz so far no one has said a thing. i don't think you would be exempt from paying child maintance payments. a friend of mine used to have us help with his child while he did hhis masters degree. i would advise you to come with someone who is willing to look after your child while you are doing your phd. paying minders is expensive about £5 an hour for the cheapest ones
nursery also costs a ridiculous £95 a week! being an EU citizen, why not try to find out what allowances may be available for your child whilst you are studying. i think you will be eligible for this type of support. my friend was an overseas student and the situation may be quite different, but generally the UK is expensive. one of my classmates wives had to go back to norway with her child as it was too expensive to stay here. hope that helps :).
