hi everyone!
I did a PhD in Turkey in 2016, after 2 years of trying, I still have not found a job due to bad economical conditions here. I applied for Postdoc (with 6 published papers), unfortunately the options in my subject are very limited and I could not get one. I am now very disappointed.
Is it possible to apply for a second Phd elsewhere in Europe, (in another subject that I am interested in), so may be I can find a job after that? What if I don't tell my supervisor that I already have a Phd?
There's no point in doing another PhD. You need to think outside the box. Apply for more postdocs, even if only slightly related to your field. I've seen loads of people switching fields after a PhD. Apply for postdocs in Europe.
Doing a PhD because you can't find a job is a dreadful idea.
To add to TOL's advice above, almost every PhD graduate that I know is working on postdocs which are largely unrelated to anything they have experience in. Experience is everything. Specific experience in that particular job surprisingly is not necessarily needed.
Not to be controversial but if it is in a different subject that you love and you can get funding, then why not apply for a second PhD? However, I would be upfront with any potential advisor about your existing PhD. I'm not sure whether you'd get funding easily etc.
On the other hand though, if the subject is closely related then the wiser path might be to look for a postdoc as people have suggested. Or even an RA position where you can possibly be given a different role later. Broaden the scope of your search and branch out to increase your options... A PhD and six papers sounds amazing...
Hi Mony! Go for it if you still have the passion to study. What would your visa situation be, though?
Could some one on here help with these questions about a PHD. I am very near to the end of my Masters and are thinking about doing a PHD. But wandering first how I go about it and whether there is funding for it.
Where do I find the information from the university about applying for something.
Any body on here let me know.
