Looking into a PhD in social science - have a Distinction Masters, but this is not ESRC recognised so not sure if I can qualify for +3 ESRC funding?
Thought about approaching organisations/companies for funding instead - has anyone done this or got any advice?
Hi Mia, you can apply for +3 ESRC funding, as long as you are applying from an ESRC recognised department. I did my masters in a non-recognised dept, then got +3 funding at a recognised one. I did make clear that I would be taking some masters level research training units from the recognised dept on my application. you could also look to see if any departments are offering funded studentships, some do in Soc Sci, e.g where they have an ESRC funded programme. Good luck!
