EU funding

G

I have tried to find funding so that I can cover my living expenses, but there is no funding available for EU students. I have searched on this website and hundreds of others, but there is not a single one! Just mention one single funding source for a postgraduate EU citizen (Swedish) in the field of physics. There is no point if the source is a highly competitive stipend, and almost impossible to get. This is a matter of having money for food and accommodation, or I have to pack my bags and leave.
Thank you

G

Kalle, welcome to the realisation that a PhD isn't plain sailing from many angles. To be blunt, there are plenty of other people out there like you. You want to pack your bags and leave ? Fine. Or you could look at other possibilities, such as doing your phd part time and working at the same time, or taking a bank loan, or dropping out, working to earn some money to pay for your studies and coming back to it later ?

G

i can't believe an EU student can say that Kalle. what are international students who pay 2.5 times more supposed to do? wisen up and get yourself a part time job. that's how am paying my accomodation and living expenses & hey, am still on deck! even though am barely getting by.

G

Well said, Jojo. You've realised the situation and dealt with it instead of whinging about it. Doing anything fun for your part time job ?

G

Hey DanB. I got this tutoring job for three hours a week during term to pay the rent and I do as many waitressing, house-keeping and cleaning hours during the holidays to take care of my living expenses. That way am able to stay in my course.

G

i can sympathise with Kalle's situation. True enough, there doesnt appear to be any funding if you are a Euro! Disappointing really, considering a PhD research bit is supposed to be of benefit to mankind?? I mean it's not a selfish thing to wonder why it's difficult to survive a PhD. I have 4 kids on my own to deal with too. Not easy is it?

G

Hi Kalle, I've been looking for funding for ages (I'm not in physics though) and haven't found anything at all for Swedes. Sorry UK, you just lost one future top scientist to Germany... :D (got several funded offers there in no time...)
