I have recently applied for a PhD on the subject of novel drug delivery systems at Aston University. This project has EPSRC backing but I am ineligible for this since I am from the Isle of Man. I have contacted the manx government who have agreed to pay the fees only. Is there another council, such as the BBSRC, that I could apply to for funding who would consider me British rather than EU like the EPSRC annoyingly do?
Sadly, Isle of Man students are not eligible for support from the UK research councils, nor for UK student loans. A guide to funding for Isle of Man students can be found at The Isle of Man College web site. If you haven't already informed your new supervisor of your funding problems you should do so ASAP, they may be aware of internal scholarships available to EU students.
