Hello everyone, can you all give some advice on how to go about leaving UK academia for another country? I know this will be very general without knowing my paticular subject area. Obviously I can just apply for jobs when they come up, but my country of choice (Canada) rarely emplys non-Canadian citizens. I've heard of people being given grants to work at other institutions, maybe as visiting researchers/lecturers etc. but how would one go about finding such an opportunity? Do I apply to a UK funding body, or appraoch the host institution?
Thanks
Just apply directly to a lab of interest and get a job offer from the PI. If you have a lot of time, patience, etc. you could apply for your own funding but that's less common.
On another note, for immigration, Canada is more than eager to give visas to PhD holders. They have a points based system and having a PhD gives you a tonne of points so you're practically guaranteed.
