Hi
I've got a translated work which was originally published in german in 1958. I have an English translation which was 1996 - how do I reference a direct quotation in the text. I know in the reference list I need to put the translator's details at the end but where (and when) do I say it was published? Do I just reference the English Language version I have or should I reference the original German? I'd kind of like to reference the 1958 version as that was one of the earliest works on the subject (most English work was early 1970s) but I speak no german at all so can't claim to have read the german.
