Right, I'm doing one of these quiz thingies. I'm trying to get through my marking without turning into a gibbering wreck, so I have compiled this sophisticated and thorough population research template which will fathom the the effects of marking pressure on PG students. I'm sure all you psychologist will be impressed.
So! My question is: How many undergraduate essays can a PhD student mark on the trott and in a sustained manner, per day, and over a number of days, before their head blows off? (Please bear in mind Christmas distractions also).
I meant how many per day if you keep going for a number of days - not sure f that was clear int he above. Must go and get my beauty sleep now. The most I have managed is 8 in a day, they tend to start blurring into one and I loose focus after that. Any think it's possible to just keep pushing through?
yep it was clear what you meant. I put 7 but actually only managed 3 yesterday :-( that's 65 to go, so hoping to up by daily quota otherwise i'll be marking over (tree)
I would say 7, but I've never had to do marking or assessment with my PhD and it doesn't seem fair, cos I'd love to do some marking. Eska, I'll mark them for you until the novelty wears off, if you like?8-)
Hey Wally, thank you sooooo much! That's great. I can't believe you haven't had any marking to do. Yeah, I usually enjoy, but the volume I have to be getting on with is collosal, so that kind takes the joy out of it. I enjoyed the first 14, which I completed in 2 days, so I reckon 7 is about right, but I'll be going for much more, I think. Unless I do it on Christmas day too...
I just had one that wrote in text messaging 'u' for 'you' etc, I think Ali G might have written it. They used this crazy giant multi coloured font for the word count info. It may just pass on entertainment value alone...
My uni pays an hourly rate for 4000 words an hour to be marked. I found that I could do that OK, and I could mark for 2 hours without going insane, then I'd need a break. So, how many you can mark depends on how long they are Eska! I think I managed to do about 20 hours of marking in a week, and that was quite enough.
Walminski, the novelty value wears off real quick! Like after the second one...The morass of average essays, all regurgitating the same info, gets old quickly...
