How to present it more personal?

E

I have to present three theories on a subject and then adopt the one I will follow for my PhD.
I find it very difficult to write about the one I prefer. I don't know how to phrase it. I mean, I present the three theories, with the criticisms they have received and then what? Should I say "Despite the criticisms theory A received, I choose it as a base for this study"?
Anybody has any other ideas? How would you do it?
Thanks

Hey Emmaki, I can't remember what subject you're in, but I think it's okay to acknowledge that the theory you use isn't perfect. I had an awful time trying to sort out a theoretical framework for my study, and I turned the whole debate into a paper, that basically concludes that the model I've chosen is not perfect (none of them are), but it will still allow me to make progress within the field, and will still allow the results to be applied in a practical way. Of course, you want to make it clear why you chose one theory over the others, so big it up as much as you can and point out the positives of using it, but don't worry about trying to pretend it's the perfect solution if it's not! Sometimes (as in my subject) there are no perfect solutions....! Good luck, KB

I think it is great if you can mention some of the limitations with your chosen theory because it shows you have thought it through (and also means that you won't get caught out by the smart ass who points out what is wrong with it)
You could highlight the key aspects (pros adn cons) of each theory and then conclude with something along the lines of despite the limitations of theory A, it best meets the needs because...

I'm doing a Phd in Education, Sociology, Management, Feminism....well a little of everything!
I must adopt a theoretical framework, which I already have....
So, I guess it's OK to just say "I chose this because of this and that and that"...
I'll write it like that and then I'll wait for feedback from my supervisor...
Thanks all!!!!!!!
Good luck!!!!
