Hi. Are you sure you need to write a proposal? When I was applying for PhDs I spent days agonising over proposals only to be told later that I need only have written a one word description identifying the subdepatment in which I wished to work. It might be worth a call to your potential supervisor to establish exactly what he or she would have you write. Best of luck.
A proposal will be needed before you start your project (in science). You should give a background of the area you are studying. then you would suggest reasons why you're doing what you're doing, then offer methods of research and analysis of results and tell us what certain findings may mean.
That's your basic proposal
In management and business studies you always need a 1-2 page research proposal outlining the main idea of your research (you research question), introduction to the topic and your research idea in some details, research questions, methodology (as least couple sentences).
