As a student in the EU working in another European country, you can apply for additional funding from the EU through various bursarues such as the Marie Curie scholarship and you can always talk to the university about how to apply for those.
Nick, it's not entirely neccessary to have a masters. Some Supervisors will request it, others are happy with graduates, but an applicant with an MSc or MSci will look better on paper than a degree qualified student
