Hi. I have an interview next week for a PhD that I know absolutely nothing about. I searched findaphd.com and jobs.ac.uk using keywords and they came up with this project. I have been rejected for many PhD places and this is my third interview, but its for a plant project and I consider myself to be a zoologist. Im more interested in the concepts and not the systems involved. Im happy to undertake the project, but I am not sure if my background knowledge is sufficient to pass the interview. Any hints on blagging the interview.
Think very carefully about this...if you have a successful interview and are offered the position, do you really want to spend 3+ years working on a project that you are not very interested in? If you choose a topic that does not inspire you, I think you will find it hard to find the motivation and dedication necessary to keep going when things get tough. Best wishes.
I would agree with the others. Think very carefully about it as 3yrs is a long time to spend on something you're not that bothered about! Is the aspect of the project that you're interested in enough to sustain you for 3 yrs and get you through the the tough times? Can you develop an interest in the subject? You can always keep looking around to see what else turns up, you never know! Have you asked for feedback from your other interviews? Good luck.
