Ive just got a letter yesterday (friday 18th) I have an interview on the 24th and im soooooo worried about it. This is my first and I really dont have a clue about what they are going to ask me and how I will answer. i haev a tendency to stutter and i have no ability to controo my nerves. Can any one give me any tips as I dont know how to prepare or what to prepare.
Thanks
Hi Sam - Well done on getting the interview. Anon gives good advice as they are likely to concentrate on 2 things, the PhD topic and your undergrad dissertation as this is (usually) a students first experience of research. Be prepared to talk about your disseration and to answer basic questions about the project you are applying for (take Anon's advice about recent publications). Best wishes.
I was also very nervous at my PhD interview despite having had many interviews in my life - as I am very shy! If your nerves are going to be obvious to the interviewer I find it sometimes helps just to apologise and say to your interviewer that you are feeling nervous at the moment - once it is said you can mentally move on from it. I got my position despite a burning face throughout and madly shaking hands! people understand so dont worry..
