Interview??

G

Yikes, I've an interview for a PhD in the next two weeks- they said they would set it up tomorro and let me know so its either this Fri or next Fri.

What type of questions were you asked? Were you expected to be brilliant? I'm not really, but I am really really wildly interested in my subject...
A little scared here, its with three supervisors....

Try to bring out reasons why you are so enthusiastic about the topic in your interview. Read over your application and CV and your Honours project - look at the successes of your project and also the things that didn't go to plan because they may ask you about this and how you overcame the problems. They won't expect you to be brilliant..not at all!! They will know you'll be nervous. Do some background reading on the deaprtment and on the topic of the project too - particularly what research they do on that topic there.

G

What Zara said more or less summs it up. They might also ask what other experiments you would have done on your honours project if you were to continue it.
Ask to speak to the other lab members- and if you can speak to them in privat ask them if they would take the PhD if they were in your posistion.

Thanks guys, I have visions of the THREE saying something like, lets discuss the current policy on XYZ, and I am going to have nothing to say. One of the interviewers is totally out of my field, and I don't know why she is there... I essentially hope it will be a lot more of a get to know you session- why do you want to complete this PhD, etc...
Yes, I have an opportunity to meet with the lab, and I hope it will be good. Its next Friday!

G

Goodluck!! The woman who has nothing to do with your field will probably just be there to give a general view on potential PhD students, or maybe she is somehow involved in recruitment. Let us know how you get on!!
