Hi ~
I am an international student doing PhD in business in Manchester. I am quite struggling with making new friends after all course works finished and friends started going back to their countries or getting jobs.
I feel quite lonely and I want someone to be friend and share our PhD life stories each other. That's why I am looking for a friend who is doing PhD as well in Manchester area.
I am female in my early thirties and married. I am quite easy going person and friendly. : )
I heard that doing PhD was quite lonely journey before I started this life. For the first one year, I couldn't feel this loneliness because of many chances to meet friends during course works and workshops. But now, the situation is quite different.
If any of you guys is looking for phD friends in Manchester, please feel free to send message or leave a reply.
I really hope this post will find good friends for me.
Thank you for reading this post. :D
Hi mrshan - I'm not based in Manchester but wanted to reply because I know how awful feeling lonely can be. Just wanted to offer a bit of advice really - have you thought about looking up your university's PostGrad Association? They usually run social events etc that you could get involved in and meet other PGs. Also I would be surprised if your Dept didn't run things like seminars where PhD students get together to share work and socialise. If not, it might be something you could think of suggesting or helping to set up yourself, that way you're doing something active to meet other people and also looks quite good on the CV. Hope you find some like-minded people soon :-)
Dear socpol,
Thank you for your great advice. Yes, I need to try and find an association in which i can actively participate. and I guess I need to be more outgoing and extrovert when it comes to making friends! I have joined two sports clubs but I realised that those friend I met in sports clubs are different from friends who are in the same boat with me. They are really nice people to talk and have fun but sometimes I wish I have a friend doing a phd so that we can get out some troubles or worries about this life and encourage each other..
I really appreciate for your advice and I will try to find some seminars and association to participate in. :)
my good lady mrshan
