I have seen this posted here on this site right at the bottom of a project description:

"The position is available for 3 years from sep 2003. Preference will be given to recent graduates of [insert their own uni,department and specific course here]"

Seems a bit dodgy to me. Maybe the team here can fill us all in.

No it says that they will give preference to their own students. That doesnt seem to me that they want to attract the best students irrespective of where they come from. Whats the point of even advertising this project?

Assuming that little else separates two candidates in terms of academic merit or experience, etc...... Even if they don't explicitly say it, it's likely that some slight preference will be given to students graduating from the same university.
