Hey there, i am just wondering if someone study in a particular field (chemical engineering) and later work in another area (management, sales, anything not related to study field etc). If he/she decides to further their studies (PhD) in the near future, will their work experience be of any help/advantage? Will supervisor still consider this kind of applicants? Will there be any disadvantages in application for studentships/ scholarships? And lastly, is it possible for someone to work too long in other field that it is not possible for them to be accepted for postgraduate studies? Cheers.
You really should ask the uni you plan to apply to.
Having said that though, even though you may meet the requirements they may have a preference for someone who has more recently worked in the field that you are applying for a PhD in. The same goes for studentships. And yes I believe you can have spent too much time in one field to jump into another one with ease. That's not to say it can't be done though.
Good luck!
