Leechblock for IE?

M

Hey, does anyone know of something like Leechblock that works on IE? I don't want to delete it cos Firefox doesn't work for some sites, but when I've got Leechblock activated in Firefox, I just end up switching to IE. :$

Melsie, you can block individual sites on ie, not sure about time-outs etc (maybe just unblock them when you're done). Here's how: http://www.gotknowhow.com/articles/how-to-block-websites-in-internet-explorer-8

What's the reason for this exactly? Surely you make the choice which sites you visit by typing their address in the browser. Is it just an aid to stop you procrastinating?

Hey, thanks for the suggestion. The specific advantage of Leechblock though is that once you switch it on, you can't go in and change the settings during the blocked time period, you just have to wait it out (unless you reinstall firefox, so i had to block out that website too, plus google...)

@Danashcoft - yeah it's to stop procrastinating, in the sense that you might say 'oh i'm only going to check facebook for a minute' but then before you know it 20mins have passed. You can set it so that it only allows you a certain amount of time on a site before it locks you out.

well i guess i'm just gonna uninstall IE cos no-one else I asked knew of an equivalent either.

I've seen one on simple-ology. But I'm not sure how 'safe' it is, although loads of people recommend it.

To block the whole Internet for a while you can use Freedom (http://www.macfreedom.com).

For blocking particular sites, Binary Switch Eclipse (http://blog.binaryswitch.com/2010/02/binaryswitch-eclipse.html) requires you to enter a long password to view those sites, and FocalFilter (http://www.focalfilter.com) will fully block the sites as long as you tell it to.

You might also be able to get around your need for IE with the IE Tab extension in Firefox:

One more, there's a good Mac tool called Anti-Social (http://www.anti-social.cc) which has a Windows release upcoming.
