after a degree in biology,i took a year out to travel.upon my return i applied for phds, and was accepted for interview by most.i then received rejection after rejection.i was accepted for a project that was not one of my original choices, but is interesting, and i like the supervisor and the place.but i feel uneasy at my decision as i feel i may be settling for something, and prob for this reason the project doesnt seem to inspire me as some of the others did.help!
That's a tough one! I'm in the same position as I've a dream PhD in mind but I've also got an offer for another PhD which would be quite interesting. So I don't know what to do as funding is very hard to come by but I also don't want to settle for something either! I'm not as inspired by this project as I am by dream project! But then again I've got to look at this realistically!! I can't wait around forever either!
One year is nothing to wait for a PhD! It depends how long you're willing to wait for your dream PhD as you could get some work experience along the way which looks good on your CV! Quite often they prefer older students who know what they want and are focussed rather someone who is just doing one because they can't think of anything else to do!
