I am considering applying for a funded PhD that I’ve seen advertised on this site. My concern is that the university is about 200 miles from where I live. I re-locate, but am not keen on that. Is it possible to live such a distance from your given university? I am thinking, is it possible to mainly work from home, and travel to university and to meet with your tutor say once a week, or even every two weeks? Is this your tutor’s decision, or is it just not possible? Is there anybody here that currently does this, if so, how well does it work?

I do this - I live about 1000 miles from my uni. It is something that you will have to negotiate with your tutor. I spent the first 5 months on campus doing some courses and generally preparing for my research. Now I only go once or twice a year and I have supervisions on Skype.
